Raleigh County Deputies Warn Of a Scam

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office said it has received reports of a scam targeting elderly residents. Deputies said the scammers call grandparents claiming to be a relative who has been arrested out of town and in need of cash or payment so they can post bond, according to social media post by the sheriff’s office. The scammers often know the names of other relatives and friends associated with the victim, deputies said. They will also ask the victim not to notify other relatives. Anyone who receives a similar call is asked to notify local law enforcement. You can also file a report online.
