Gov. Justice Outlines Tax Goals

Gov. Jim Justice held a live online town hall Monday to explain his proposal to get rid of the state’s income tax. Justice said the proposal before the Legislature would cut the state income tax in half initially. To offset $2.1 billion lost from the tax, the governor has proposed raising the state sales tax by 1.5%, increasing taxes on soda and tobacco, taxing professional services and tiering severance taxes. He said it’s a way to drive growth in the state and lower taxes now.
