Manchin strikes deal over jobless benefits

Senate leaders and Senator Joe Manchin stuck a deal over emergency jobless benefits, breaking a nine-hour logjam that stalled the one-point-nine-billion-dollar COVID-19 relief bill. Manchin was ready to support a less generous Republican version of the bill, and the compromise will provide three-hundred-dollars weekly in jobless benefits. The bill does provide direct payments of up to 14-hundred-dollars to most Americans.
