Community Center Wing is Renamed to Honor a Leader

A new community center wing has been named in honor of a Charleston leader. Robert Edward Easley Sr. is the first African American community police officer in the city of Charleston, and is known for his work with children both in and out of the uniform. Robert Edward Easley Sr. was known as the ‘Father of After School Programs’ and mentored young people at Jobs Corps. On Monday, Charleston City Council announced they renamed the after-school programs wing of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center to the “Robert Edward Easley Sr. Annex,” to honor him twenty years after his death.
