George Tanios Won’t Be Released From Prison Before His Trial

A judge has denied requests from a Morgantown man to be released from jail before his trial. George Tanios was indicted on charges related to the U.S. Capitol riots on Jan. 6 and the judge denied requests from Tanios and Julian Khater on Tuesday. Both will remain in jail. Court records said Tanios and Khater worked together to assault Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick with bear spray during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The Associated Press reported that investigators initially believed that Sicknick was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher, but now believe Sicknick may have ingested a chemical substance — possibly bear spray — that may have contributed to his death.
