Reta Mays Receives 7 Consecutive Life Sentences

A federal judge gave Reta Mays the maximum sentence on Tuesday. Mays will serve seven life terms consecutively after admitting to giving fatal insulin injections to veterans at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. Mays was also sentenced to 240 months in prison to run consecutively with the life sentences for one count of assault with intent to commit murder. The judge waived a fine because of Mays’ inability to pay, but he ordered that she make more than $172,000 in restitution to a group that included some family members, the VA and several insurance companies. Mays sobbed in the courtroom and apologized to the families.
