News Staff The City of Nitro is purchasing almost two-hundred-sixty-acres near Ridenour Lake. The land will be used for hiking, mountain biking, hunting, and other recreational activities. The deal is expect to close in a few weeks.
Two Child Protective Service workers are out of a job and charged with misdemeanors involving the abuse of a four-year-old boy who later died. They’re charged with involuntary manslaughter and failing to report suspected abuse. The boy’s mother and her boyfriend are also facing charges.

Kanawha County Schools will offer a free summer academy to help kids get back on track after months of virtual learning. The program will give students the opportunity to retake a class or catch up on credits. The free summer academy is available to all students pre-K through high school for the month of June.
The Huntington City Council is considering two ordinances to put a stop to illegal bars. The city attorney says there has been a surge of businesses opening as “game rooms,” in an effort to circumvent the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration and city requirements for bars.
