Police looking for vehicle that helped inmate escape

Prestonburg police are looking for the vehicle that picked up an inmate who escaped from Highlands ARH medical center. Matthew McMahan got away in an older, dark colored Chevrolet TrailBlazer with tinted windows and possibly a “Friends of Coal” license plate.

Suspect arrested in deadly shooting of Beckley teenager

A suspect is under arrest in the fatal shooting and an 18-year-old Woodrow Wilson High School student. Twenty-year-old Jeriamyah Fortner turned himself in to Beckley police. Investigators say he was recklessly handling an AR-15 rifle and accidentally shot Dwayne Richardson, Jr.

Unofficial Results Show Canterbury As Milton’s Mayor

Tom Canterbury led the field in the mayor’s race in Milton in unofficial results after Tuesday’s municipal election. Canterbury outpaced Scott Bias, who had 133 votes, Shane Evans, who had 127. WCHS TV reported the canvass will be held on May 10 when absentee and provisional ballots will be counted.

New Power Transmission Line is Planned Through Nitro

Appalachian Power announced a proposed route for a project that would rebuild 15 miles of electric transmission line in Kanawha and Putnam counties. West Virginia health officials say getting to herd immunity against COVID-19 is going to take a lot longer than anticipated. Variants are becoming a problem, and so is vaccine hesitancy. Forty-four-percent of people in the United States have received at least on dose of vaccine. In West Virginia less than 36-percent have received one dose.
