Familiar scam resurfaces in Kanawha County

Scammers have been calling residents spoofing numbers from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and demanding payment to avoid being arrested. The sheriff’s office said in a news release that the callers claim residents have outstanding warrants for their arrest. Bonds and fines are always paid in courts. The sheriff’s office said deputies sometimes will advise people over the phone about an arrest warrant, but they will never ask for money to take care of an arrest warrant. If you receive a phone call doesn’t sound right, it is more than likely a scam and you should hang up. The sheriff’s office said anyone who has fallen for the scam should report it to local law enforcement.
