Group Calls For Safe Return to Schools

A coalition of concerned teachers and parents held a virtual town hall discussion Sunday calling for a safe return to schools. The Our Students First town hall featured nearly a dozen participants who said the school year should begin with remote learning and begin in-person classes only after 14 consecutive days of no new COVID-19 cases. The group is also calling for Gov. Jim Justice to utilize CARES Act funding to provide internet access or technology to families so that children are better equipped to learn virtually. A common theme and concern in the discussion was safety — both for students and teachers. A virtual rally was also held Monday with live events on Facebook involving parents, educators and lawmakers.
