Shawnee Park is Getting New Pickleball Courts

Pickleball players in Kanawha County will soon have a new place to play. Ground will break on eight new, regulation-size pickleball courts Tuesday at the Shawnee Sports Complex, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Commission. The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Pickleball combines the elements of tennis, badminton and has been rising in popularity. Officials said they hope the new courts will be able to attract regional tournaments similar to other events held at the sports complex. The lighted courts will be located at the front of the park near the basketball courts. The total cost for the project will be $386,000, and will be paid for by the commission’s ARP funds.
