A jury has been selected in the Kanawha County Circuit Court trial of a man accused of killing four of his family members at their Elkview home. Gavin Smith, now 18, was 16-years-old when he was charged with four counts of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of his mother, stepfather and two younger brothers in December 2020. Forty-six jurors showed up to begin the selection process. Twelve jurors and two alternates were selected for the trial and udge Ken Ballard is presiding over the trial, which is expected to last several days. Smith is being represented by Kanawha County public defender John Sullivan.
