West Virginia State Police leader steps down as the investigation into the agency continues

The superintendent of West Virginia State Police has resigned amid allegations and an investigation into wrongdoing within the agency. Jan Cahill resigned from the position Monday, according to a news release from West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice’s Office. The resignation comes after allegations into the State Police ranging from the misuse of federal and state dollars, using ghost accounts tapping public money for secret unauthorized personal purchases, high-level staffers engaging in inappropriate behavior in state offices and vehicles and illegal overtime practices resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraudulent payments were reported by Eyewitness News.
