The City of Charleston’s next public art project is in the works, and it honors the life of Martin Luther King Jr. Drivers on the interstate will be able to see the mural on the side of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. Community members and students can help by painting a panel that will then be installed to form the portrait. The Office of Public Art will hold a meeting next month so people can start on the project. They’re hoping to have it done by August 28, the 57th anniversary of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
