Madison Terminates an Employee Over Back Taxes That Weren’t Paid

Madison City Council moved to fire a city employee Wednesday in a special session discussing an auditor’s report that found significant irregularities. The city’s attorney, Chip Shaffer, said the report from the West Virginia Auditor’s Office found that the wage withholdings to the IRS had not been made in several years. WCHS TV reported the IRS has filed an $804,000 lien against the city and the investigation will take months more. There are no allegations of criminal wrongdoing, but there was a failure on the employee’s part and that person has been terminated.
