After much debate, the West Virginia House of Delegates has rejected a bill to set a school calendar in the state. House members shot down the measure 50-47. It called for the first day of the school year to start no earlier than Sept. 1 and no later than June. 7. In West Virginia, 54 of the 55 counties currently have different school calendars and under the new bill they would have been able to request a waiver. But the House bill failed Wednesday on its third and final reading.
