Washington Street East has reopened in Charleston after the demolition of a building in the 1500 block that was the subject of a short court battle. Elizabeth Street will likely be closed through the weekend while crews haul away debris from the work site, according to a news release from the city of Charleston. Phillip Chin and New China Restaurant Inc., the owner of the building, had sought a temporary restraining order to halt the city of Charleston’s plans to demolish the building, but it was demolished on Wednesday.
