Barboursville police said there has been an increase in catalytic converter thefts from cars at the Huntington Mall. Police said thieves crawl under the cars in the parking lot, cuts off the part and then sells it to a local scrap yard. The part, which is used to reduce toxic gasses and pollutants on the exhaust, often costs the owner hundreds or thousands of dollars to replace. Police requested that anyone with information regarding the thefts or sale of the converters call 304-736-5203. Police said if anyone notices someone crawling under a car at the mall, they should call 911.
