Appalachian Power has filed a rate increase request that it said would boost the average residential customer’s monthly bill nearly 11 percent.
The company said a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month would see a boost of $13.88 or 10.9 percent. The West Virginia Public Service Commission still has to approve the increase request. The rate increase would be to recover costs for coal and natural gas to fuel power plants. Wheeling Power also has submitted a rate hike request. Appalachian Power has 1 million customers in Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee.
