At 46%, West Virginia currently has the third lowest Census response rate, ahead of only Alaska and Puerto Rico. The coronavirus pandemic has played a major role, but without an accurate count, West Virginia is facing several risks. Less money coming to the state means bad roads, less jobs and possibly losing a seat in Congress. The lowest performing counties are in the south, including McDowell, Summers and Wyoming. To complete the Census, go to the Census website and click “respond” and “start questionnaire.” The Census can also be done over the phone at 1-844-330-2020. The data-collection deadline has been extended to Oct. 31 of this year.
