In an effort to keep emergency medicine fully funded, people in Roane County might have to pay a yearly EMS fee. Roane County EMS is proposing a yearly fee to update a 40-year-old levy that was put in place when the department only had one truck and volunteer staff. The Roane County EMS Director told WCHS TV the county needs more than that to keep up. The money from the fee would go toward ambulances, education, and staying fully staffed. If the yearly $50 fee is adopted it would have to be passed by the Roane County Commission or added to the ballot as a levy vote in the upcoming election.
