Some Protest at the State Capitol Despite the Event’s Cancellation

A protest scheduled for Sunday in Charleston was abruptly postponed. Organizers said they received credible threats that may have kept the demonstration from remaining peaceful and worries over safety contributed to the postponement. The demonstration was set to bring hundreds into the city, and there were also concerns over out-of-state travelers. Charleston Police Chief Tyke Hunt said his department had an increased presence in the area Sunday as dozens gathered despite the cancellation.
