It has been difficult for restaurants and other local businesses to make it during the pandemic, and some have been receiving help from their landlord. The Charleston Urban Renewal Authority has been forgiving rent for the four restaurant properties it owns: Black Sheep, First Watch and Subway on Summers Street in Charleston, as well as Mi Cocina De Amor in Elk City. The assistance first started in April when businesses started feeling the effects of COVID-19. It originally was going to be for April and May, but the group has chosen to not charge rent for four months, ending at the beginning of August.
