Volunteer Fire Departments Will Receive State Funds

After a big push from the Kanawha County Commissioners, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced this week all volunteer fire departments in the state will receive financial assistance. All 419 volunteer fire departments will receive $10,000. According to commissioners in Kanawha County, volunteer firefighters have responded to almost 1,700 calls since the state of emergency was declared in March 16. Commissioners say that they estimate that 90% of all fire service calls are answered by volunteer firefighters.
