Charleston Plans to Restart Its Recycling Program

Recycling will start again soon in Charleston. The City Council approved a measure to pay for processing mixed recyclables. The council also voted to allow the City Manager to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority which will allow recycling to resume Tuesday, Sept. 29. The city will pay $175 per ton of recyclables taken to the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority to be processed. Newspaper, office paper, magazines, cardboard, aluminum, tin cans, similar metals, plastic #1 and plastic #2 are all acceptable recyclables. The city says Mayor Amy Goodwin is also in talks with other municipalities in the county to create a long-term recycling solution.
