Commissioners Urge For Pandemic Child Care Assistance

Kanawha County commissioners are voicing their opposition to what they called a rollback of a state COVID-19 child care assistance program for West Virginia essential workers. WCHS TV reported commissioners sent a letter to Bill Crouch, cabinet secretary for the state Department of Health and Human Resources, strongly urging the DHHR to reverse the decision that was outlined Sept. 3 in a memorandum sent to essential workers in the state. The program was started in March and serves more than 280 families in Kanawha County, including employees at the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department, deputies at the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, employees of the state, nurses, health care workers and first responders. Commissioners said the program provides a significant benefit and a is a huge relief for essential workers and their families.
