A jury in Kanawha County this week returned a guilty verdict for Cynthia Gatewood. She was found guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Cheryl Fisher in the parking lot of a tobacco store in Sissonville in 2018. Gatewood’s attorneys did not dispute that she stabbed Fisher, leading to her death but contended she was not guilty of first-degree murder which would require premeditation. The jury also heard from witnesses on both sides before they deliberated again to determine if they will recommend mercy for Gatewood.
