Kanawha County Moves to Red

With Kanawha County moving from orange to red on the state’s COVID-19 metric map, leaders in the county are urging residents to take extra precautions to avoid spreading the virus as cases continue to rise. The county made the color change on Wednesday, joining Monongalia County as the only counties in the state in red.

As Kanawha County cases continue to increase, the health department said it is seeing more than clusters and hot spot outbreaks, and it’s seeing community spread. The latest figures from the health department report there are 747 active cases in Kanawha County and a total of 60 associated virus deaths. Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said increasing COVID-19 cases puts a strain on health care workers and the emergency medical system. He urged everyone to do their part to stop the spread of the virus.
