Property crime like car theft, breaking and entering and burglary are down 31% over the last three years in Kanawha County, according to Sheriff Mike Rutherford. The change came in 2018, when Rutherford created a division of deputies solely dedicated to focusing on property crime investigations. WCHS TV reported property crime has gone down 31% in Kanawha County since 2017 and in the last year, the division alone recovered nearly $1.2 million worth of stolen property. Rutherford recommends keeping good lighting outside of your home or business, make sure you keep cars locked up, and look into getting surveillance camera systems to protect your property.
