Kanawha County health director, Dr. Sherri Young has sharply criticized Bible Center School for starting in-person classes Monday and called for it to stop classes while public schools remain closed. School officials have defended their decision. School officials said they did not take the decision lightly and will continue to update its safety protocols. Calvary Baptist Academy in Teays Valley said it began in-person instruction on Monday, Sept. 14 for families who are comfortable participating. Public schools in Kanawha County cannot currently have in-person classes because the county is in orange on the state county alert system map.
