The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a crash that happened Monday night on I-79. A tractor-trailer hauling food struck a barrier near a bridge and overturned, then landed in a wooded area and caught fire as first responders arrived. Sheriff Mike Rutherford said a Deputy Sheriff was able to locate one man near the wreckage and help him to an ambulance. That man was a passenger in the truck. The driver was from Fresno, California and was killed in the crash. Weather is believed to have played a role since it was raining at the time, but the cause is still under investigation.
