Beware of Scams

It’s International Charity Fraud Awareness Week, and state leaders are offering suggestions to keep you from being a victim. Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said he encourages generosity, but it’s important to be aware of phishing attempts and identity theft attempts. Avoid using third-party links, and go straight to the organization’s website instead to make a donation. Also be suspicious of charities that ask for donations in cash, gift cards or via wire transfer. And be wary of unsolicited calls that thank you for donations that you do not recall making. Scams usually increase during the holiday season.
