High Court Hears Arguments in Governor’s Residency Case

The West Virginia Supreme Court heard arguments from both sides in a lawsuit over whether Gov. Jim Justice must live at the state capital. Arguments were held Wednesday in an appeal of a Kanawha County Circuit Court judge’s ruling that denied the governor’s motion to dismiss the 2-year-old case. Del. Isaac Sponaugle wants Justice to live in Charleston saying it’s outlined in the state constitution. Lawyers for the governor say the question is political and should be left to lawmakers to decide, not the courts. It’s unclear when the high court will issue a ruling.
