Montgomery unveiled its new Amtrak station Friday with a ribbon cutting and public ceremony. Mayor Greg Ingram said the city has been in talks with Amtrak for about five years. The station is a $1.8 million investment by Amtrak, and it’s one of several upgrades coming to train stations in the mountain state, totaling almost $27 million. Montgomery’s station now has handicap-accessible ramps and will soon have other improvements. Amtrak has begun construction at stations in Charleston, Alderson and Hinton. Work is scheduled to start soon at stations in Huntington, White Sulphur Springs, Thurmond, Prince and Harpers Ferry.
