Governor Justice says that West Virginia elementary and middle schools will return to five-day-a-week in-person instruction on January 19th regardless of what the COVID-19 alert map indicates. Justice says remote learning in failing and that as many as one-third of students have failed at least one core class. Child Protective Services says child abuse and neglect reporting is down because kids aren’t in school and it’s not being reported. High schools will reopen on January 19th, unless the county in which they are located is in the “red” on the school alert map.
