The Man Who Attacked a Charleston Police Officer Will Have a Psychiatric Evaluation

A man police said attacked a Charleston police officer with a rock and tried to disarm the officer has been found not competent to stand trial. Anthony Gamble of Baltimore, Maryland went before a judge Monday at a virtual hearing in Kanawha County Circuit Court, and the judge determined Gamble should be sent to William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital in Weston for three to six months. The hearing was initially set to arraign Gamble on the charges but that has been delayed until after the evaluation. Gamble has been at the South Central Regional Jail since his arrest in July when he was accused of throwing rocks at Patrolman Chelsea McCoy, and attacking her.
