The Cottageville Volunteer Fire Department voluntarily suspended operations to address equipment-related issues. A statement from the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security said the issues at the VFD in Jackson County were identified during a visit and evaluation by the state Fire Marshal’s Office. Office staff have offered to assist the VFD as it works to resolve the issues. Jackson County 911 has arranged for fire protection coverage for the Cottageville VFD’s area by coordinating with other departments in surrounding areas.
