The number of deaths from coal mining accidents remained low in 2020. The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration says there were twenty-nine deaths in the country, with only five coming during coal mining activity. Two of those five deaths were in West Virginia. It’s the sixth straight year that mining deaths were under thirty.
