West Virginia Del. Derrick Evans, R-Wayne, has resigned from his position in the House of Delegates. Evans was charged with two federal misdemeanors Friday after court records said a video posted to his Facebook showed him “joining and encouraging a crowd unlawfully entering the U.S. Capitol.” Evans said in a statement he takes full responsibility for his actions and hopes the resignation removes any distraction from the state Legislature. The resignation is effective immediately. The party executive committee of the 19th delegate district will have up to 15 days to submit names for nomination to the governor. The governor will then have five days to make an appointment to fill the position. The 85th Legislature will convene at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
