A new initiative was announced Friday called “Save Our Town Center Mall,” aimed at keeping the Charleston Town Center open. The move comes after several stores announced they are going out of business at the mall. Del. Jim Barach (bear ack) is spearheading the movement, and said ideas that will prevent the mall from closing permanently, include increasing mall security, reducing parking fees and repurposing closed anchor stores into offices or churches. Charleston Town Center Marketing Consultant Lisa McCracken said mall leaders welcome discussion on ways to revitalize the property. Barach is also proposing a surcharge on out-of-state companies making online sales to West Virginians.
