The Hatfield McCoy Trail System was closed for eight weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic, but still sold a record number of trail permits for the year. Gov. Jim Justice’s office said the trail system sold nearly 65,000 trail permits last year, and that’s 15% more than in 2019 and its’ the highest number of annual permits ever sold. More than 8,500 new riders were welcomed to the trail system during the 20th anniversary last year. The governor’s office said more than 80% of total sales were to non-West Virginia residents. Two more trails, the Ivy Branch and Cabwaylingo trail systems in Lincoln and Wayne counties, are scheduled to be added to the trail system on March 1 and that will make nearly 900 miles of off-road adventure riding trails.
