The Washington Post reported this week that Dr. Rahul Gupta, the former top health official in West Virginia, is a leading candidate to be nation’s top drug policy official. The Post reported that Gupta is favored to lead the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Gupta was also part of President Joe Biden’s transition team, and currently serves as the senior vice president and chief medical and health officer of March of Dimes. Gupta first began his role in West Virginia as the director of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department and helped to oversee the county’s response to the 2014 water crisis. He then went on to serve as the state health officer and Commissioner for the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health from 2015-2018.
