Gov. Justice Submits Income Tax Repeal to Lawmakers

Gov. Jim Justice announced on Thursday he has submitted a bill to the state Legislature that will repeal personal income tax in the state. The governor first announced his intentions of the bill during his State of the State address in February and has been holding virtual town halls on the issue over the last two weeks. If the bill passes, West Virginia will be the only state in the mid-Atlantic or northeast region to eliminate state income taxes. Consumer sales tax would be expanded under the bill, and taxes on soft drinks, tobacco products, and alcohol would also change.
