HIV Testing Remains a Priority in Kanawha County

Health officials in Kanawha County are working on ways to expand HIV testing. The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department cited recent studies by the CDC that show the pandemic may be leading to a decrease in HIV testing across the country. Dr. Sherri Young, health officer and executive director of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department, said they don’t want to lose sight of other health problems during the pandemic. The health department’s plans include adding a third state disease intervention specialist for the county, working with community partners to provide wraparound services to HIV patients, assembling a mobile HIV testing unit and working with the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority to provide point-of-care testing.
