The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said a man has been charged after he was paid more than $7,000 for a construction job at a home and didn’t complete the work agreed to in the contract. William Hurst of Hurricane has been charged with a felony count of obtaining money by false pretenses. The sheriff’s office said Hurst was paid the money Feb. 21 as a deposit for work to be completed but never did any of the work agreed to in the contract. After numerous reasons were given for the delays, he blocked contact with the other party. The sheriff’s office said Hurst was operating under the name of Hurst Construction. Social media pages for the company were deleted during the investigation and no company by that name is on file with the state Secretary of State’s Office, and Hurst also has been charged with a misdemeanor by the West Virginia Tax Division for operating a business without a license. Anyone who has additional information or similar cases involving Hurst or the business is asked to contact Detective B. S. Middleton of the sheriff’s office at tips@kanawhasheriff.us or BrianMiddleton@kcso.us.
