Rural Communities Struggle To Get People Vaccinated

At the beginning of the vaccine roll-out, rural health departments were having to send their patients to larger, regional clinics. Now as they face the same hesitancy wall as everyone else with better supply, they are faced with more challenges and fewer resources. The state’s map indicates that Mingo County currently has a vaccination rate of 23.8% , one of the lowest in the state. The goal is 70%, and WCHS TV reported counties like Mingo are calling on the state for help with promotion. As a smaller, more rural health department, they will need all the help they can get to spread the word. The Mingo County Health Department also has a van and they plan to utilize that for mobile vaccinations.
