Less than 24 hours after a story from our partners at Eyewitness News about pothole and patchwork repairs needed on MacCorkle Avenue in Kanawha City, the state Division of Highways now says the roadway will be fixed. The DOH initially said they would be looking at repaving 40th to 60th streets later on after some funding consideration. But now there are plans to put in new pavement on MacCorkle Avenue much sooner. Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin shared a Facebook post about the meeting, saying DOH members in attendance said MacCorkle Avenue will be paved from 40th Street to 56th Street by the end of October. Earlier in the year, Goodwin requested MacCorkle Avenue be considered a medical access road, since Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital is right off of it and ambulances frequently drive it. It would have made it a priority to be fixed. That request was denied by the DOH. The repaving project is set to cost $1.8 million.
