Uptick in Tourism Shows Promise for the Summer

Tourism officials view heavy road traffic this weekend and high demand for state park cabins and campgrounds as signs of good things to come for the summer. Traffic on the West Virginia Turnpike has been right in line with AAA expectations of a 60% jump in travel this weekend despite higher prices for airline tickets, gasoline and hotels. State parks are seeing nearly full cabins and campgrounds. Tourism officials said park revenue is up almost 100% compared to 2019. Some state parks and lodges are still undergoing major restorations and could not host visitors this weekend.
