West Virginia will now allow public charter schools. The bill signed by Gov. Jim Justice went into effect June 1 and allows for creation of 10 charter schools over the next three years. The bill would also add a professional charter school board as an authorizer. The bill also begins the process of creating virtual charter schools. That includes two virtual schools that will be allowed to enroll more than 25,000 students. West Virginia has also waived some certifications to become a teacher. A new law paves the way for college graduates without education degrees to teach in public schools.
