Jackson County is seeing a spike in drug overdose cases. The EMS director said in 2019 they had 34 overdose cases, in 2020 they had 43, and this year to date in Jackson County they’ve already had 16. The EMS director told Eyewitness News that cases usually spike when money flows in, such as stimulus checks. Sheriff Ross Mellinger believes the increase in overdoses could also be traced back to the rise in fentanyl in the county. Jackson County has a Quick Response Team that operates through JCEMS and the Jackson County Health Department. The team follows up on overdoses and works to get into treatment.
